I've been watching and tailing them for the
last couple of years. They fly to Putrajaya
and return in the late afternoons. These
magnificent birds from my neighbourhood
would also fly alongside my car in the
mornings, around the elevated stretches
of the MRR2. Standing over 1 meter tall,
the birds look really awesome in flight,
like a creature from the Jurassic age.
Story: Stalking
Storks
Yesterday, as I head out to
the Ramadan bazaar in Melawati, I was
stuck in a traffic standstill. The birds
were back at their usual resting spots
on top of street lamps. I shot this
one from the inside of my car as it
took off. By selecting a speed of 1/250
sec, I was able to precisely freeze
its head and legs yet maintain blurring
for the flapping wings to suggest motion.
There are about 300 Milky and Painted
storks residing in Zoo Negara. They
roam free and wide, providing a wonderful
challenge to photographers.
