I IN THE SKY

The recent update of Kuala Lumpur's satellite images on Google Earth shows better resolution than before. Even though the available data is more than a year old, one still can have fun flying around. In the course of work, I have flown extensively over Kuala Lumpur and other places in both fixed-wing aircrafts and helicopters. Here are some of my armchair observations of the GEMs (Google Earth Malaysia) captured...

Jalan Pahang toll plaza was dismantled quietly in March 2004 but it still appears. 1000 ftKlang Gates dam & water catchment area. See the houses and dam merging? 28000 ft
Bottleneck that resulted in endless traffic jams on both sides of Jalan Tun Razak. On the next Google Earth update of KL you should see the 'smartest' solution ever thought out. Someone decided to widen the bottle instead of the neck! The nightmarish snail-paced construction is finally over and the jams now go all the way to the Parliament Building and Ampang Park (even with traffic police supervision). 1500 ft
Longest blue roof in the world? Petaling St's ugly shelter really stands out. 1200 ftKenny Hills. KL's highest concentration of private swimming pools per sq mile. 1500 ft.
Confluence - Where Nature beat Man. Where the two rivers meet (lower circle) and where the two LRT lines missed each other narrowly (upper circle). 2000 ft
