Fed up with those Nigerian
scam spam? Well, you can take it lying down or
fight fire with fire, the Malaysian way
Dear
Mrs Maryam Abacha,
I
am Dr Mariam Os, the wife of the late Malaysian
General Os, former president of a local municipal
council. Following the sudden death of my husband,
I have been thrown into a state of utter confusion,
frustration and hopelessness.
The security agents in the country have subjected
me to physical and psychological torture too.
My son is being detained without trial under the
Emergency Ordinance for selling pirated
VCDs below the recommended price. As a
widow that is so traumatised, I have lost confidence
with anybody within the country.
You
must have heard over the media reports and the
Internet on the discovery of various huge sums
of money deposited by my husband with various
banks abroad. In fact, the total sum involved
is believed to be in the tune of RM 700 million
(1 US dollar = RM3.80). Due to foreign currency
exchange restrictions, I am unable to raise even
RM 500,000 for my daughter's medical education
at a local private college.
Therefore,
I felt that I am suddenly blessed to come across
another widow in another third world country who
shares a similar predicament and plight. Hence,
I have decided to respond to your mail and I do
hope you will be the person God is going to use
to rescue my family and me.
By
the grace of God again, I have discovered minutes
before sending this mail that a sum of US $85
million was deposited by my late husband in my
name with a bank in your country. Any additional
information is withheld for now, for security
reasons until we fully commence communication.
I shall be grateful if you could receive this
fund on my behalf for safekeeping.
You
are entitled to 35% of the total sum. I hope to
invest a proportion of the balance in the logging,
telecommunication and broadcasting industries
in your country. Please forward your private telephone
and fax numbers so that we can fully commence
communication immediately.
However,
in case you might mistake this for a Nigerian
419 fraud, I would like to be totally
honest and forthright with you. I require you
to deposit a minimal US $10,000 into another account
seven days before I execute the transaction. This
is to cover the advance fees of the attorney,
bank manager and other officials. While I guarantee
you a 100% risk free and smooth transfer, please
note that our banks are closed on the first and
third Saturdays of the month, in addition to 183
other annual state and national holidays.
Upon
successful completion of the transaction, I would
also like to personally invite you to invest in
several lucrative projects in our country. I have
contacts to secure licenses for private pay TV
stations, logging concessions and inside knowledge
of the expected privatisation of our police force.
You may be interested to know that my brother-in-law
has just secured the contract for a nationwide
triple tracking railway project.
I
will quite appreciate, if you accept my proposal
in good faith. I look forward to receiving your
urgent reply to my plea. I also hope that you
would similarly exercise utmost indulgence to
keep this matter extraordinarily confidential.
Yours
truly,
Dr
Mariam Os
