Update:
Malaysia
& Regional Tsunami Disaster Information
/ Resource Page
In the immediate aftermath of this morning's
devastating earthquake -
PPS's network of bloggers rose
to the occasion - providing personal and
timely reports from various parts of the
country. A tidal wave of pings to PPS
brought unique and firsthand accounts of
the tragedy
to many Malaysians caught unaware.
Juggernaut
Jeff
Ooi once again led the pack with
a summary of news sources and pertinent
updates. Since today is a press holiday,
there are no major print publications available
on the stands. The Internet and the broadcast
medium delivered the grim news to many late-waking
Malaysians.
Northern
bloggers Lilian,
Lone,
Lucia
Lai and Peter
Tan (also via Penang
Bloggers) provided early glimpses
from the hardest hit part of our country.
Forummers at iPenang
posted aftermath pictures of overturned
beach chairs and jolted tourists.
Bloggers
from the rest of the nation - AlwaysWow,
Applegal,
Prema,
Inevitable,
Bobjots
(among others) - blogged about how they
were shaken from slumber or evacuated from
homes.
The
web sites of Bernama,
NST,
The
Star, The
Sun and Malaysiakini
featured breaking news while The
Malay Mail's site was still stuck
with a headline of Patricia's murder at
the time of writing. The Star posted a line
at the bottom of its report: "If you
have any real-life experience to share on
this earthquake, please mail our newsdesk".
Bloggers did just that.
